IS MY SONG READY TO MIX
There are several things you need to do to avoid additional time and expense. Below is a checklist of steps for preparing your files saves time and allows me to concentrate on mixing.
CLEAN UP TRACKS
Send ONLY the audio that you want included in the mix
Edit tracks that have noises like clicks, pops, or glitches. These little noises may initially go unnoticed, but once compression and other processing is added, these noises are amplified.
REMOVE PROCESSINGÂ ANDÂ EFFECTS
DO NOT render tracks with processing or effects, unless it is an essential part of the sound.
If certain effects and processing are an integral part of the sound, send a "dry" and processed version, for reference.
LABEL TRACKS
ALL files & tracks need to be labelled with common names that identify exactly what's what.
Abbreviations are fine if they are commonly used. well known and consistent.
CONSOLIDATE
This ensurse that the audio files all start at the same point in time, so I can simply import all the tracks into my DAW and everything will play back with the proper timing.
Even if we use the same software (Pro Tools), and I can open your project files directly, it is still a good idea to consolidate each track and export the entire project to a new project folder with ONLY the newly consolidated audio files.
